Tramping, as New Zealanders say, is what we call “hiking” in the rest of the English-speaking world. The Hooker Valley Track is considered one of the best day hikes in New Zealand. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery for myself and to say that I went tramping in Hooker Valley! 😉
The trail starts from the Aoraki Mt Cook National Park Visitor Center, but if you’re running short on time, you can start instead from the White Horse Hill campground, which is further down the trail. The track mostly flat, crosses a few bouncy suspension bridges, has varying landscape, and best of all, has epic mountain views!
As you start the hike, try to stop and look around you. There are epic views in front and behind you! This view of Lake Pukaki in the distance is not to be missed.
If you’re lucky to be hiking on a clear day– you’ll enjoy views of the peak of Mt. Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand.
The hike ends at a glacial lake with mini icebergs!! It’s the perfect spot for a picnic lunch.
I’m truly amazed at the beauty of this world. I’ll never get tired of incredible views like this!
