TRAVEL TIPS
- The best introduction to the city is taking a free walking tour starting in the Old Town Square! You’ll be able to decide which parts you want to revisit later and ask your guide for recommendations
- Most popular souvenirs are marionettes or puppets
- The Square and Charles Bridge get really crowded midday. If you’d like some fantastic photos in amazing light, I recommend exploring them at dawn. Watching the sunrise at the bridge is unforgettable.
- Stay: We stayed at Hotel Hastal Old Town. It was in a fantastic location within walking distance to the Jewish ghetto and Old Town Square. We got a room on an upper flow with a balcony with a great view of the rooftops and spires of the ancient architecture. It’s a great value! The furnishings are dated-giving it like an old world vibe-but it’s clean and safe.
NOTES
Prague! It is such a beautiful city. When you’re walking around the Old Town, it’s like stepping back in time. We started off the day with a free walking tour, then explored some of the side streets off of the Old Town Square. It was quite crowded with tourists, but that was to be expected in August.
I think my favorite part was walking across the Charles Bridge to the Prague Castle. The views of both sides of the city featuring their famous colorful architecture are amazing. Right on the other side of the bridge from the main square are the 17th century Wallenstein gardens. There were people dressed up in Renaissance costumes walking around the gardens in character with baroque music streaming from speakers hidden somewhere in the bushes. Yes, they do it for the tourists and some may find it cheesy, but I found it quite charming! As if I was really living in that time period!
